The Big Easy

Well, if these kids have learned one thing during our time in the states, it's how to be good travelers. We have covered some serious miles--on the road and in the air--over the last few months, and our little arabmusicians have handled it so, so well. This week, we made a quick, 36-hour trip to a place that is near and dear to Jason's heart (and stomach): New Orleans!

He was born while his dad was in school there, and although they moved away before he was old enough to remember it, he's always loved the city--and its delicious food! Please, please click on the picture above to see the sign that is still hanging on the door to the building where his parents lived when he was born. They had to keep him very quiet those first few months!
We ate plenty in our short trip--po-boys, red beans and rice, pralines.....Yum! But we went not primarily for the food, but to see several people that we love dearly. We got to catch up with friends and meet two new babies. The kids thought this toy helicopter that really flies was the coolest thing ever!
And, of course, we couldn't visit the city without walking out to see the old muddy river. Sawyer would have gladly jumped right in!

Both kids thoroughly enjoyed their beignets! Sawyer developed a creative technique for eating them that involved licking all of the powdered sugar off and then dipping the remaining beignet in more powdered sugar.

We had a great trip, and can't wait to go back in four years! Next stop: the Lone Star State!
